舊瓶裝新酒，原作主線簡明，一場針對老人的莫名報復，本片改為遭遇背叛的情殺，破案是女主為了真愛追究出的結果，心跳算是火上澆油。在結尾之前，這種改變跟40s短片一樣，由於增加了太多背景，引入了觀眾的同情而削弱了原作不循常理的瘋狂帶來的恐怖。但結尾接連兩個反轉，夢醒-遇見夢之預見，帶有對愛倫坡故事的元敘事，盡情發揮了60s的懸疑氣質，加倍了本片的不寒而慄之感，後窗式的監控視角也更令人脊背一涼。（男主神經質的演出惟妙惟肖，情人與朋友便顯得有些罪有應得。
